A slender celadon-glazed vase, 20 cm high, restored according to the traditional kintsugi method.
The soft blue-green celadon glaze gives the surface its characteristic depth and translucency. Its restrained colour provides a particularly subtle setting for the gold, allowing the restoration to remain present without overpowering the original ceramic.
The vase was restored using natural urushi lacquer, with the fractures rebuilt and refined through successive applications, each followed by a curing period. The final surface was then finished with 24-carat gold.
The restoration combines long, fine joins with a few broader areas where the break required more extensive rebuilding. The gold follows the exact course of the original fractures, making the final pattern entirely specific to this vase and impossible to reproduce.
