Turquoise Buddhist Head — Traditional Kintsugi with 24k Gold

This ceramic head features a luminous turquoise glaze, with blue-green variations that accentuate the sculpted details. The lowered eyes, softly curved lips and elongated earlobes give the face a contemplative presence, framed by a tall, intricately ornamented headdress.

Restored by Myriam Greff using traditional kintsugi, with natural urushi lacquer and pure 24k gold, the piece reveals its fractures through a delicate network of golden lines. These travel across the headdress and forehead, descend along the sides of the face and continue around the back. Against the cool turquoise glaze, the gold introduces a warm, contrasting light.

The lowered gaze recalls the contemplative expression found in Buddhist sculpture and its association with spiritual awakening. Here, the encounter between a serene face and visible fractures invites a reflection on resilience: tranquillity need not mean an absence of rupture, but a different relationship with what remains.

Rather than returning the object to an untouched appearance, the restoration allows its history to become part of its presence. Fragility and composure coexist, joined by gold.
