Pokémon “Pocket Monsters” Bowl — Traditional Kintsugi with 24k Gold

This white glazed ceramic bowl features Pikachu, Mew and Eevee, accompanied by pink and yellow dots and the “Pocket Monsters” lettering. Its gently flared silhouette rests on a small ring foot, while the colourful exterior contrasts with a plain white interior.

Restored by Myriam Greff using traditional kintsugi, with natural urushi lacquer and pure 24k gold, the bowl is crossed by a fine golden seam. The line runs through the illustrated decoration, continues across the base and traverses the interior, widening into a small area of gold at the rim. Inside the bowl, the simplicity of this single line offers a quiet counterpoint to the playful characters on the outside.

The encounter between pop culture and traditional restoration invites a reflection on what makes an object precious. Here, gold is not reserved for a rare or ceremonial piece: it honours an everyday object whose imagery can evoke childhood, affection and shared memories. The repair gives the bowl a new presence without erasing its familiar character.
