An antique Japanese glazed ceramic bowl, featuring a warm ochre and honey-coloured exterior glaze contrasted by a luminous ivory interior.
The underglaze decoration depicts a cherry tree and a cedar, with stylised motifs appearing in subtle relief beneath the glaze. Deeply connected to Japanese imagery, these two trees evoke both the fleeting nature of existence and a sense of permanence.
Its fractures have been restored using the traditional Japanese art of kintsugi, with natural urushi lacquer and pure 24-carat gold powder. The golden lines extend across the surface like new branches, subtly continuing the bowl’s original botanical decoration.
A unique piece in which restoration does not conceal the object’s history, but transforms it into a new composition.
