19th Century Chinese Yunomi, Blue Phoenix, 22-Karat Gold Kintsugi – Rebirth of a Legend

Imagine holding in your hands a fragment of history, a 19th-century Chinese yunomi, whose fine and translucent porcelain tells tales of a distant past. Its blue phoenix decoration, a symbol of rebirth, has passed through the ages, testifying to the eternal beauty of art.

Acquired at an auction, this yunomi bore the marks of a past restoration, unsightly and preventing its use. I then undertook to bring it back to life, by removing the old restoration to reveal its original cracks.

With infinite delicacy, I restored this yunomi using the ancestral Kintsugi technique, highlighting its scars with lines of pure 22-karat gold. Each golden crack tells a story, that of resilience and rebirth.

This yunomi is not just an object; it’s a sensory experience. The fineness of the porcelain, the sparkle of the gold, the symbolism of the phoenix—everything comes together to create a moment of pure harmony. Restored with food-safe materials, it can be used for drinking, or simply admired as a work of art.
