This elegant little cup belongs to the large Yunomi family. This is a type of handleless ceramic or porcelain cup that the Japanese use on a daily basis. Cylindrical or delicately flared, these vessels are perfect for enjoying brewed tea!
Here, the 5.5 cm-high, 7.5 cm-diameter Yunomi is made of porcelain. Accidentally broken and magnified by a 24-carat gold kintsugi restoration, this cup has become an absolutely unique piece.
And as kintsugi is the only restoration technique compatible with food use, it gives this mug a second life, whether for drinking tea, sake or simply admiring it!
Myriam’s view:
I particularly like the slightly flared shape of this Yunomi, which makes it very pleasant to handle. What’s more, the pure gold of the kintsugi stands out particularly well on this shade of porcelain!
