Subterranean Light is a one-of-a-kind green and white geode vase standing 27.6 inches high, conceived as an exposed geological landscape.
The upper section of the vessel is covered in a deep green glaze marked by dark vertical striations, while the lower section shifts into rich, earthy brown. Between them, a broad geode of white and translucent glass crosses the silhouette like a mineral layer suddenly brought to the surface.
The geode does not appear to have been placed upon the vessel. It seems to emerge from within it. Its irregular glass surface captures and fragments the light, creating a luminous presence at the heart of a dense, almost telluric form.
Traditional Japanese kintsugi lines, created with natural urushi lacquer and pure 24-carat gold, extend this inner geography across the ceramic. They form a precious network of faults connecting shadow, earth and light.
In Subterranean Light, radiance does not come from outside the sculpture. It seems to have been held within the material all along, waiting for the opening to make it visible.
