The Daphne
“The Daphne” is a unique ceramic sculpture, shaped to mimic the bark of a tree trunk, representing a man’s torso. The cracks, bearing witness to a history, are sublimated by the ancestral technique of kintsugi, where gold transforms imperfections into precious lines. A living ivy, symbol of vitality, blossoms from the shoulder, spreading gracefully over the torso. Water, invisible but essential, nourishes this life, embodying transformation and the perpetual cycle of nature.
A Mythological Inspiration:
This work is inspired by the myth of Daphne and Apollo, but with a bold reinterpretation. Traditionally, Daphne, pursued by Apollo, is transformed into a laurel. Here, the male torso, like a modern Daphne, embraces its transformation, symbolizing inner strength and the capacity for healing. The ivy replaces the laurel, evoking continuous growth and resilience in the face of trials.
Symbolism and Values:
- Resilience: Kintsugi celebrates the beauty of scars, reminding us that trials strengthen us. It symbolizes man’s ability to rebuild himself in the face of environmental challenges.
- Man-Nature Harmony: The work highlights the interdependence of man and his environment. It is a call to preserve biodiversity, essential to our balance.
- Art as a Vector of Consciousness: “The Daphne” invites deep reflection on our relationship with nature, emphasizing the urgency of its preservation.
A Unique Work of Art:
More than a simple sculpture, “The Daphne” is a metaphor for our world, a hymn to life in all its forms. It celebrates fragility and resilience, impermanence and rebirth. This piece is an invitation to contemplate the future with hope, recognizing the beauty that emerges from transformation.
