This large Japanese stoneware sculpture, over 75cm high, depicts a majestic eagle with outstretched wings chasing a seagull over the waves.

In Japan, the eagle symbolizes intelligence and power, and this is exactly what the artist has conveyed with this piece.

The sculpture’s title, embossed in the material, can be translated as “Strong and Weak Birds”.

The shimmering colors range from watery green to purple and crimson browns.

Myriam’s view: Japanese ceramic sculptures are extremely rare, as they represent a major technical challenge for the potters.
