Brown glazed sugi-nari shaped chawan

This Japanese stoneware chawan with its marbled brown glaze was handcrafted in Kyoto by a master potter.

This Japanese stoneware chawan with green-speckled brown glaze was made in Kyoto by a master potter.

Its glaze reveals the marks of the potter’s wheel, forming beautiful concentric circles. It’s a sugi-nari bowl, which means it has the same profile as a wooden chawan.

You’ll find the potter’s signature engraved on the underside of the bowl

Accidentally broken, I restored it in the traditional way using Japanese lacquer, called Urushi, and 24-carat gold.

You can reuse this bowl to drink your favorite tea, or simply keep it as an object to admire.

It measures 12 cm in diameter and 7 cm in height, and is twice unique.
