Ancient Art and Modern Innovation: A Kintsugi and Lepidopteran Vase
This small 10cm stoneware vase is more than just a decorative object. It’s a true work of art, born from the meeting of tradition and innovation.
Initially broken, it was delicately restored using the ancient Japanese technique of Kintsugi, enhancing its fracture lines with a 24-karat gold seam.
But this vase holds another treasure: a millennia-old entomological technique, lepidopteran. This technique consists of using the colorful scales of butterfly wings to create patterns. Fascinated by this method, I decided to adapt it to lacquer, creating an exceptionally fine peony design.
The butterfly wing used to create this motif is attached to the vase, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of the scales and the care taken in their removal.
This vase is a unique piece, combining the aesthetics of nature, the precision of craftsmanship, and the poetry of Japanese art. It is an invitation to travel and contemplation, a work that will appeal to art lovers, collectors of unique objects, and all those who appreciate the beauty of simple things.
